The Wrong Powell Resigned --
The good soldier left while his changeling whelp is still in the government. John Aravosis at AmericaBlog steered me here. Tom Shales, the TV critic at The Washington Post just fries Michael Powell, present Chairman of the FCC, and the lovely chap responsible for the current uneasiness in the broadcast industry about what is and what is not appropriate to put on the air and when.
Here are a few excerpts: “Powell ignores or condemns anyone who opposes him. Though FCC chairmen have labored mostly in obscurity, Powell has managed to make himself famous; he's the Torquemada of the insane campaign now being waged against "obscenity" on the airwaves.”
And another, when Shales is discussing previous Chairmen: “Powell belongs at the bottom of the barrel with the lowliest of the bunch. He is an agenda masquerading as a man, the proverbial pompous ass and, worse, a genuine threat to freedom of speech.”
