Get ready, we’re being primed for a screwing…

Dear Leader’s toadies are feeding us tidbits of bad news to get us ready for the turd of a budget that Bush will drop in the punchbowl in February. Cuts for low income programs, heath care and research, science, and freezes for domestic programs. I am confident we’ll see no mention that any tax cuts will be rolled back - in fact Cheney was recently talking about more tax cuts. From today’s New York Times, we have:

Applying Brakes to Benefits Gets Wide G.O.P. Backing
By Robert Pear, January 9, 2005,
The New York Times

WASHINGTON, Jan. 8 - In his budget request to Congress, President Bush will try to impose firm, enforceable limits on the growth of federal benefit programs, and the chairmen of the Senate and House Budget Committees say they strongly supported that effort.

Administration officials and Congressional aides said Mr. Bush would also seek cuts in housing assistance for low-income families, freezes, or slight increases in most domestic programs, and larger increases for domestic security. The spending plan for 2006, like the appropriations enacted for this year, would give priority to military operations and domestic security over social welfare programs.

The new chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Judd Gregg, Republican of New Hampshire, said he and other fiscal conservatives wanted to establish "enforcement mechanisms" to "put the brakes on the growth of entitlements," which pay benefits to millions of Americans according to formulas set by law

Those formulas “set by law” will have to be changed by new laws. Hopefully we’ll see some moderate Republicans stand up with Democrats against the lunatics who want to put poor folks either in the street or reinstate the poor house.

I’m waiting for someone to try to canonize Grover Norquist. There's much more at the link.
