I’m sure you’ve noticed…
On Tuesday, the Supremes declared that the death penalty for those under age 18 violates the 8th Amendment to the Constitution. “Numero Ocho” reads as follows: “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.” With the 5-4 decision the United States joins the vast majority of civilized nations who don’t execute juveniles.
It will come as no surprise that I don’t support the death penalty for any crime, no matter how heinous. It just doesn’t make sense that we try to teach murderers a “lesson” by murdering them. The research appears to support my gut feelings also - and, I’ve always wanted to ask a biblebanger: “Who would Jesus execute?”
Needless to say, Dear Leader’s two ideal judges, Scalia and Thomas, voted to keep on killin’ the kiddies. Now the only folks who have to worry about getting killed by the state are white adults who are poor, blacks, Hispanics, and the mentally challenged.
