Judge dismisses lawsuit of convict who blamed security for molestation
The Associated Press, December 9, 2004
SOUTH BEND, IND. -- A judge has thrown out a prisoner's lawsuit blaming a library's security for the child molesting he committed.
Ladell Alexander claimed that if the St. Joseph County Public Library's security company had done its job, the 4-year-old victim would not have been hurt. Security guards should have confronted him or called police after observing him in an unauthorized area of the library before the molesting incident, he alleged.
Alexander is serving a 16-year prison sentence for the molestation nearly three years ago.
Alexander sought a total of $4 million in damages, including $1 million for the young victim's family.
U.S. District Judge Allen Sharp ordered the case dismissed Monday, calling it "vile and malicious."
"Though every decent and moral person wishes that he had been prevented from committing this hideous crime, no one owes Mr. Alexander anything for having not done so," the judge wrote.
Alexander is imprisoned at the Miami County Correctional Facility.
A four-year-old: with any luck at all, Mr. Alexander is wearing a tutu and learning the joys of being the victim of molesters. What a sorry specimen of humanity.
